A Collection of about 2.5 million images, major collections include Durham Advertiser newspaper negatives (1934-1961), ICI (Wilton and Billingham) images from c1914-1999, Huwood (HughWood Ltd) mine engineering, BBC North East Stills, Farmers Guardian and Farmers Weekly negatives, Consett Iron Works images taken by Arthur Philipson, extensive collection of social and industrial photographs of the North East of England from mid 1850 to current day, including collections by specific north east photographers including Charles Nicol of Jesmond, William Lubbock of Blackhill, tramway photographs by George Hearse and record photography of the North East by our founder director Frank Atkinson. The images are in print, negative and transparency media, both glass and acetate and range from 35mm to cinema glass plates.
